Laos is historically known as The Land of a Million Elephants. Once surrounded by large fields filled with wild elephants, they were used to transport the royal family and for military purposes. Today, their population is dwindling due to loss of habitat and they are made to work in the harsh logging industry.
Elephant Village is a sanctuary for rescued elephants with the goal to protect and rehabilitate these animals through responsible tourism. Our howdah free practice means the elephants would not have painful seats strapped on them. They are cared for within a lush environment with an onsite veterinarian.
In just a few hours, you can try elephant riding, visit baby elephants, learn more about elephants at our elephant museum, visit the Tad Sae Waterfall and have lunch. Just nice if you want to keep the rest of your day free for other activities!
